Nope, never. I don't think I've seen it on a menu at a restaurant I'd trust to do them well recently.

It was the perfect balance of tangy, spicy and creamy. It was just fantastic.

Weird. If it's something you like, you should be less trepidatious about ordering it in the future. Almost no restaurant will use fresh since the price jump between frozen and fresh mussels is somewhere in the 10-15/lb range. So pretty much everyone just throws frozen mollusks into a pan of wine and cooks till hot.

Well now, yeah. It's easier to get fresh or at least well-treated frozen mollusks to the midwest these days than even a few years ago.
