Made it to work.
Nice to hear: "You just need a new battery."
Good to hear: "Sure, I can do that for you right now."
Great to hear: "I cut the price here for you so it will cost [$20 less than estimate]"

I like getting out of the mechanic for less than $200.

The bad: Not being able to replace my shoes which leak like crazy. I do not appreciate frozen toes all winter, thanks.
Makes me sad that this pair of Merrel's loses. walking around Chicago yesterday was pretty evil on my feet.

Smart wool socks from REI. Even if they are damp, they keep your feet warm.
But new shoes rock too! :)

The fact that these leak is just annoying and sad. :(

I would argue it may induce frostbite, should you be stuck outside for any reason.
Such as a surprise Zombie attack! Fear the zombies! New winter boots...

I'm glad you've learned the point I've been trying to make. I hope you wear less zombie-dangerous boots in the future.

Why did you have the mechanic replace the battery? It's like, $80 for a battery, and you just pull out the old one and put the new one back in.

Because I was there, late for work, and I trust them.

Part of me hates you right now. Really and truly.

What? Why would you be mad at me?
beloitst From: beloitst Date: December 22nd, 2008 07:22 pm (UTC) (Link)
Because my car died, and I got told I needed a new engine, which is $4500. My car is only worth $1500 (and that's on the high end). Which means my car is totaled, and I'll be lucky to get $1,000 from the insurance settlement, which isn't enough to cover a new car -- even a cheap crappy used one.

I find my awesome car-ruining powers growing everyday and fear I'll ruin the economy single handed by preventing all people from getting to work, bankrupting them, or, god forbid, destroying their engines on various interstates across the land.

My only hope is this large, lead-lined helmet I'm currently wearing will prevent my auto-death rays from emanating to anyone else.

Sorry about totaling your car from across the country.

Thanks. For what it's worth, I'm glad you were spared that kind of pain.
