Post-apocalyptica.

Man, I remember Wasteland. I did not do well in that game. Also, my disks got corrupted and never managed to finish it. Lame sauce.
I still go back and play Fallout 2 occasionally even though it is the hardest game ever. So I totally hack my characters to get past the first third of the game without dying at each friggin' radscorpion.

mmm.. Fallout 3.

Totally gonna finish Assassin's Creed before Friday if I can. I took the day off for Halloween ostensibly to prep for dinner. But really? All day Fallout 3 playin'. hmm.. expect that it'll probably be delivered in the afternoon.

DAMN. Foiled by reality.

Current Mood: excited excited

I've been waiting ten years for Fallout 3! We've got a copy reserved, but I might not be able to pick it up until I get paid on Friday. Oooh, it looks so pretty!

I like Amazon's same release day delivery. Better were I actually working that day and could jump in when I got home.

I worry about my productivity this weekend in the research department. I have a LOT to do...but...I mean, the sooner I beat Fallout 3, the sooner I can get back to work, right?

Amazon just sent me the delivery notice and says it'll be delivered tomorrow. I may have to disappear.

Uh-oh!

Yup. Me too.

I may have time to "win" (though not finish) Fable 2 tonight.

Got my ultra-dork Amazon copy on its way. Got a lot of playing to do, as WotLK comes out soon. Damn.

Fallout 2 was hard? Bah. Fallout 2 was nowhere near the hardest game out there.

Wasteland rocks my socks. I once spent an entire summer playing it, over and over, before going out and having fun. You could reset your characters and play through it again. By the end of the summer, my characters could walk up to the Scorpitron in the middle of Vegas and punch its punk ass out.

Fallout 2 was crazy hard at first. if you didn't take melee skill, you were screwed in that first trial to get the vault jumpsuit. The hell? Aren't you supposed to have OPTIONS? I tried playing my hold-over sniper character from the first game and had to restart, dump all my points into melee so I could get out into the world.

LAME.

Otherwise, the game was friggin' awesome.

Pshaw, you could make it past the critters if you tried hard enough.

Only lame thing about Fallout 2 was them taking out the way you could save the sentient race otherwise doomed to extinction in the endgame movies. But leaving it out was, well, kinda fitting. And too many random encounters taking away from the theme. Otherwise, perfect.

God damn I can't wait. Too bad I won't get it until Friday.

Dude, Amazon just sent me the delivery notice and says it'll be delivered tomorrow. I wish. :)

ALSO: vaguely jealous re: Fallout Fanboy Ed. I wasn't crazy excited for the PIPBoy clock. If it had more nifty things. :) Also, what would I do with a lunch box? What else does it come with? Posters?

I totally ordered the special edition of Mirror's Edge from EA though. I'm a bag whore though. I almost want to buy the special edition offered by GameStop to get that version of the bag. But GameStop - evil.

Lookie here to see the details. Kinda wish I had the UK special edition, to get the power armor figure.

You didn't have to take melee... you could've take brawl. (^_^)

I spent a lot of time in that game, at least as far as I got, running from every encounter, and usually dying if my opponents had guns. The biggest problem I had with it was the lack of direction. After you find Vault City and the other city which was founded by a character from Fallout I (I don't remember the name) I couldn't tell what to do at all. Eventually I looked at an online guide and found the GECK, but after the raid on your settlement I couldn't tell what to do at all.
abmann From: abmann Date: October 27th, 2008 05:16 pm (UTC) (Link)
I think that city was Arroyo. Aroyo? Whatevs.

Yeah, I had trouble packing up the plot after retrieving the GECK. Eventually you gets sucked into the Brotherhood and fight a faction group.

I just spent most of my time raiding graves. :)

The wife and I will be picking this up...once we've had our fill of Fable 2.
abmann From: abmann Date: October 27th, 2008 05:47 pm (UTC) (Link)
I'll get to that eventually. So much backlog.

I'm entirely too addicted to information and TV. Must have constant feed or I can't enjoy or focus on anything. maybe I'll play games if I listen to more NPR in the background.

Hmm... games AND information.

We're going to get Fallout and Mirror's Edge, but what we really want is the time to play all these awesome games!
abmann From: abmann Date: October 27th, 2008 05:55 pm (UTC) (Link)
I was really excited about Mirror's Edge up until today when I read that many of the actions rely on the L buttons. I can't hit those easily. Now I'm worried.

Also, WTF don't game makers allow re-mapping keys as standard in their games?

Grr. Arg. Darn you, two-handers.

Just a wonder, do you know if there are commercially available one-handed Xbox 360 controller mods available? I know therre was a project by local (I mean really local, like Verona, Wisconsin local) modder Ben Heck to create a one-handed Xbox 360 controller for an injured soldier, but I don't know if there is any commercial source for such a mod.

I agree, game manufacturers should allow remapping standardly, if they're not going to have available options for one-handed gamers.
tener_duende From: tener_duende Date: October 27th, 2008 07:20 pm (UTC) (Link)
Whoa, as if to answer my own question...

A message on Ben Heck's website reveals that he is currently working on a 360 Access Controller, but that's it's not available yet. Looks like the PS2/PS3 version is $130. Hope he finished developing the controller soon!
abmann From: abmann Date: October 27th, 2008 07:27 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yup, I've seen that. I'm very curious AND concerned. That's a ton of buttons for one hand, especially the shoulder buttons. Single finger control for 4 buttons? Crazy. I suspect it just takes time to learn to use it though.

I'd pay $130 for an Xbox version of that when he finishes it.

Oh man, I loved wasteland. I've played both Fallout games too, but never completed them. I'd really like to get Fallout 3, but to be honest I still haven't finished Oblivion.

Also there is a new game site up called www.gog.com
that takes classic games, removes the copy protection and re-engineers them to play on windows. They have all 3 of the Fallout games and I'm waiting to see if they pick up wasteland. They also give up the game manuals and other free stuff and the games are always $9.99 or less.

How about OS X?
From: hello_momma Date: October 29th, 2008 09:44 pm (UTC) (Link)
I don't think they do. It would be a great idea considering the lack of games for Macs. I guess loading Windows and bootcamp is as close as you can get.

Fallout 2 is not hard!

Okay, maybe the first time around in that beginning fight with the keeper, that's a bitch, but after that it's pretty easy unless you chose all the rp skills instead of combat ones AND used Good Natured (that made it a bitch for me). Hell, if you want supercheap, you do what most vets do and just walk all the way down to the Enclave base and snatch Advanced Power Armor while nobody's looking.

I still doubt it will live up to its hype, but I want to see how nice those extras for the Amazon special edition will be. I want my own pipboy!

Re: Fallout 2 is not hard!

Wasteland on the other hand, I will concede to its annoyance. I still can't get past the dumb sewers of Darwin City.
