Sure, I'll bite.
Ok, as much as I"d love to see it (and buy it) I read with a very large, burly and grabby grain of salt:
Apple Tablet PC coming in October. [Gizmodo]
They may also be venturing into sub-notebook territory to eat more market share.
Details at: Macrumors, Apple Insider.

This is one of those futuristic Ender's-Game-type gizmos that I actually think are pretty inevitable. I'm psyched that Apple is leading the way on this.

If by "leading the way" you mean "thrashing hard against the trend," sure. :)

I guess I don't know as much as you do about the market, but I feel like with things like the Blackberry, iPhone and Amazon Kindle, there's a large interest in multi-use, portable tools.

Oh! Sorry, I thought you were making a joke. Smartphones are a different market. Sub-notebooks are laptops, smaller and more compact than the Macbook Air - like the Vaio laptops. Tablet PCs tend to be smaller-than-normal laptops since they haven't keyboards. Apple has repeatedly said they hate tablets because they can't do anything well and would never produce one.

thats sweet, I'd rather have that than an ipod touch.

Depending on size, sure. If it had a pen, I'd want to use it as a work computer. Easily transportable and great for meeting notes, design and wow factor!

I waffle on this one. But I don't think the timing is right for the full tablet thing.

I agree. Though some of Apple's patent applications of late suggest they are working hardcore on gestures to use in tablet-like controls. Some of them would be useless on an iPod Touch or iPhone.

Honestly, the idea just...doesn't feel Apple right now? No other way to put it other than I couldn't see it sitting on display in the store.

an Apple Tablet would make all my dreams come true

...but I'm not holding my breath

how did i miss this post yesterday?

i love it when you share these things. i've been lusting over a new mac lately. i've got a powerbook from 2005 that i still actually love and functions beautifully . . but i miss having a desktop for photo editing. my carpal tunnel has gotten so much worse from editing using the trackpad. and YES, i know i could use a mouse, but i'm actually BETTER with the trackpad. maybe this means i need a wacom tablet . . but i'm left-handed, so would i use it left handed? now i do all my trackpad edits with my right?!?!?!?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!?!?

whoa, complete tangent. guess i needed to get that out. ahem.
