Portrait of a Young Man as The Artist

On the Catwalk
Originally uploaded by ABMann

I am sincerely glad this week is over. I dislike deadline stress since invariably there are issues we find at the last minute that we can't always address. It is harrowing at least, especially if we find major bugs. Luckily, the only issues we have remaining are minor though complex to fix but no customers will see them; they happen in a particular environment setup that, though we are contractually obligated to a customer to support it, hasn't actually happened yet. And never will since our company is adamant that they never do such a silly thing. Occasionally customers do listen to us (especially of we wave the patient safety flag at them).

Now I really want to post more, something involved and even interesting but as I've been eaten by my job for the last two weeks, I got nada. Saddness.

Um... I have a cranberry scone in front of me. ^_^ I keep stopping at Vic Allen's in the morning for Chai or Coffee and to see the cute barristas. Unlike SOME coffee shops which I frequent, the cute barristas can pull decent shots there too. It may be the owner of said VA's, with her uber bible Study manners implores upon these girls not to suck at their jobs. Unimaginable. Work ethic? That's not what this country is all about!

: So, people are interested in a Photowalk this Sunday. Let's say we meet at Ground Zero around noon for lunch and take this route along Willy St and the lake towards Olbrich:

That will be a nice walk. 2.5 miles. Then we can head back unless people want to stay at Olbrich for a while. Sound good? Yea or Nay?
Yes. You should all come and join me. Else only I will be getting the exercise.

I love the fisheye. I can't think of any consistent use though. So much so that I'm considering selling it and buying the 105mm VR Macro lens I've been oogling for a while. A great street length with VR AND macro AND the price dropped recently. Mmm... macro. tastes like closeness.

I took the photo near state one night. I handheld a 1.6 second exposure to get the people motion on the sidewalk. Fisheye is REALLY forgiving of camera shake.

Lastly: NikonRumors.com believes Nikon is releasing a new camera on Monday. The D700. New flash is very likely and potentially two new lenses too. I'm excited. Though if it is the D700, it is WAY out of my price range. $3k? Um.. yeah.
UGH. Two work trips to Texas in August.
We know where our towels are. You should find yours too (at photog_xp!).

I can pull a meanshot with a beautiful crema, but my real strenght lies in foam.

I'm bummed I'll miss the photo-walk, asit sounds like a nice one. I love Olbrich. Havse you beento the Arboretum?

Which Arboretum? I've been in the one off Seminole and the one near Nakoma.

I have slowly been perfecting my foaming. I can get the temperature by touch now and the froth on site. mmm.... latte.

There's only one Arboretum - it's got multiple entrances. :)There's a small strip between the one you're talking about and the section closer to the Vilas zoo that's privately owned, but it's connected by the Arboretum Drive and it's all wooded, so it doesn't feel separated. There's the actual "tree garden" part, where they have various labeled specimens of trees, and then the different ecosystems (prairie, northern hardwood forest, southern hardwood, and marsh).

Too bad Victor Allen's doesn't have fair trade coffee or decent milk. But I guess you like children in third world countries to live in slave labor and to drink antibotics and hormones That's cool I'll get you a whip and a sharp stick for your birthday and you can start torturing underprivileged children in this country too.

I've been feeling a lot of that lately. Not because of my job but because of generally being busy. Oh well.

I could probably go on Sunday as long as I could make it to the Chazen by 3!
