Krakoom - Portrait of a Young Man as The Artist — LiveJournal

Nice storm tonight. Did you see it?

I combined two exposures, the lightning from one and the street from another. I just liked the streak of car light next to the lightning.

Sure, a little cheating but you can do it in a darkroom. :)

Current Mood: calm calm

Ah, was wondering when I'd see a lightning pic from ya. I contemplated driving somewhere to get a good shot. but my camera has an issue with being soaked in water. weird, I know.

Yeah. I've mostly been lazy about it.

Cameras are generally better with water than you expect. Mine is pretty good wit the metal and rubber casings.

You don't need a special camera to capture lightning?

Nope, just exposure control. Long exposure and a medium-open aperture.

I used 30 second exposure and f8. I honestly just kept pressing the shutter until I got one.

Wow, that photo is lovely.

We were driving back from Naut-ti-gals when the storm was at its' peak, it was intense. Several flooded streets and rain of the type where you can't see the road even with the wipers on top speed.

Scary as it was I adore summer storms.

I hear the east side and downtown were nutty-bad flooded. Stalled cars and such. It is nice that the west side is higher up.

I'm sick of all these storms and so are my poor cats! They flee and hide. So cute.

We had this one burst of thunder that shook the whole house for a good 10 seconds. AWESOME!

I woke up at 8 today to a crash like that.

Absolutely no problem with combining two exposures. It's less "cheating" than most of what photoshop is used for.

Wouldn't be too hard getting the lightning caught with 35mm film, just have to make sure that street light is out of the frame, and you'd probably want to be shooting 200 or 400 speed, nothing faster. Tripod, shutter set to bulb, f16, and you'd be good.

Yup, that's about what I said above.

Very nice! I'm glad you got a good shot of the lightening. I imagine time is of the essence. :) I'm currently trying to decide if I want to suggest trying to dodge out the street light that's fighting for attention with the overlapping lightening...

Hmmm. I don't know. Something about this one is a little bit "Successories" for my taste.

Oooh. Maybe you should have a photo caption contest!

This is amazing! I did see storms, but not like this. Your photo is much more breathtaking.
