The Secret Photos of Strangers Photograohy Experience - Day 7
Homeless on the Steps to God

It was hard taking this picture tonight.
Photo shoot went well (I think) outside of nerves. Took 329 shots. Now I'm at Michaelangelo's editing them.

329?! My goodness that's rather a few.

I was at Michaelangelo's earlier ('round 3:00ish), so while you're a good stalker in terms of going to places where I hang out, your timing leaves something to be desired.

I shoot on burst fire because my hand is really shaky. So two or three are more stable than the first usually. Also, I like to talk with my models so many of the shots have Silly Face Syndrome and are quite unflattering.

I was passed out with migraine at three. :\ I would have totally preferred to be able to stalk you at a more reasonable hour!

Ah, I shoot in the fast exposure mode for the same reason, I'm a wobblehands. And the talking thing makes sense.

That sucks. Migraines are the worst. It's okay you missed me, I was with Kara and we were having stalker-unfriendly conversations (ie in-depth discussions about people you've probably never met and would probably not be interested in).

I went to Olbrich Gardens yesterday and took 250 pictures. I find the more that I take, the better chance of getting something that I actually, really like.

That's true with art as well, I think. The more pictures I paint/draw, the more likely it is I'll do a decent one. : )

How often do you like what you do produce? And when you like it, does it have broader appeal?

When I first started, I hated what people liked and vice versa. Now I'm find that the work I like tends to find fans out there on the Intertubez too.

It's very hit or miss.

It's rare that I'll do something I hate, but about once a month or so I do something I can barely stand to look at. Often the ones I really don't like are the ones that sell right away, which is weird. I'm always a bit relieved when that happens, because then I don't have to live with that particular piece and it has a home where someone likes it.

A while back I did a few "Alice in Wonderland" drawings based on the original woodcuts. link. I really didn't like at least half of them, but I sold 4 on the first day (one of them I sold twice) which was baffling, especially since no one bought the two I thought were the best.

Then there's stuff like this: http://www.kandeart.com/images/postits.jpg where I was just screwing around with a new idea and wasn't really sure about the result, but it sold and really surprised me.

You're being awfully kind. :)

One day, I'll purport the cool demeanor of a photographer I have in my head!
