Because many people read my blog, sorry for the inevitable duplicate entries:

The tax rebate that Congress just rammed through isn't actually a rebate. It's an ADVANCE on next year's tax return.

From the CNN article:
"The checks are an advance on next year's refunds, and most, if not all of the money, will be deducted from taxpayers' refunds in 12 months' time."

So, you get it now, sure, but you have to give all of it back.

Me? I'm going to stick it in my money market account and earn 5% on it until I have to give it back.
Retarded politicians. This is just going to make the entry into recession that much harder.

Vote Cthulhu in 08 and you won't repay the guvnint.

Also: Clinton and Obama abstained. McCain voted for it.
Kucinich abstained as well

Edit: That line has subsequently been removed from the article. I have contacted CNN about this.

Current Mood: aggravated aggravated

That phrase isn't in the article. Someone said it had been edited.

You're right. I contacted the editorial board.

Wonder if it was a mistake initially, or if they're trying to cover it up....

The text of the bill passed contains nothing about this. Refunds are not deducted from next year's taxes, although the refund itself may be taxable. Not sure about that.

My Coworker called Tammy Baldwin's office. It is indeed an advance on next year's refund.

I'm not surprised. By the way, no matter who we get I still see one same scenario: 4 years of hardship cleaning up Dubayah's Reaganomics.

Or four years of some idiot making things worse.

The age IS supposed to end in 2012, you know. With the dollar falling as quickly as it is, we could make it happen...
