If evolution provided relief for women in pregnancy, one might ask, what about the equally awkward morphology of men with beer guts? “You’re not the first one to ask this,” Prof. Shapiro said with a laugh, and said that their research shows that “men would not be as well adapted to a beer gut than a woman.”

Actually, since I'm not planning pregnancy any time soon (ever?), but not wanting to miss out on this wicked cool biological design trick -- I've increased my beer consumption considerably. I wouldn't want that uber-flexible lower back to go to waste.

They also researched why some popcorn kernels don't pop.

I want to be a scientist and get paid ridiculous amounts of grant money to research really stupid things.

hmm, then can they please explain why then so many pregnant women get such severe back pain if they're so well adapted?
