Um...maybe I'm projecting. Anything I do involving a camera pointed at myself - especially if it involves a mirror - requires a modicum of goofiness of my part.

Whenever people see pictures of themselves, I think their eyes go strait to the places that make them feel self conscious. For example, when I look at pictures of myself, the first thing I look at is my upper arms and waistline to see if I look fat, and then my nose and face, to see if it looks piggish and round. Nobody else zeros these things when they look at pictures of me.
When I first saw this shot of you, I didn't even see the scruff until you pointed it out. Actually the first thing I saw was your ear, because that's what meets on the glass so it butterflies, and looks neat. Then your eyes, because the angle of the shot doesn't create perfecty symmetry with the mirror - which I like, I don't think I'd like it so much if it did - so your two gazes are slightly different. And though the eyes are haloed with shadow they still stand out, and in the black and white the iris' are just light-swallowing black; I don't know if that was intentional or not but if gives this view of a hungry soul, someone who is pulling in and doesn't have much to give back at the moment (which, if you were depressed, was probably true, I guess). And then the next thing I looked at was your mouth. Your mouth just has a great shape, and the mirror caught it from two perspectives and makes it doubly intriguing.
The face on the left seems to be lifted slightly up, as though studying something, possibly searching for something. The face on the right seems to be looking directly across, as though given up, and spacing out. Anyway that's my perspective, that's why I think it's so revealing, a great shot.

Wow, I haven't talked that much about what I saw in a piece of art since sophomore year when I went to the Chicago Museum of Modern Art and was trying to impress my date, sheesh!

I love it when people deconstruct my pictures. It is so cool. :)
