Things.
I want to decorate my office. I think I'll be spending far too much time in it without sunlight. I'm thinking simple. I currently have a red bed sheet on the wall next to me.
Suggestions? How do you decorate half an office?

    To Do this afternoon:
  1. Clean office
  2. Buy radio for office.
  3. Headphones for radio.
  4. Light for desk.

And a fun new LJ game:
Curmudgeon or butthead?
You decide.

Current Mood: tired tired
Current Music: Evil Boys

Butthead.

A curmudgeon would dismiss you out of hand for something related to the picture itself, instead of making a character attack.

Good point.

Butthead. A Curmudgeon might be grumpy, but would also realize you shouldn't use the web as a medium to make acidic attacks on web-speak.

Software tester. I'm thinking something minimalist. I'd like to have light tones but my desk is a medium brown.

The red sheet could go as needed.

I think you know what I'd put there

Whether you have the time and effort to start one up though is up to you, but at the least, a well-set up one can provide an excellent light source as well.

Re: I think you know what I'd put there

I think I'm missing something. I'm blocking pictures currently. Did you post one?

I have a roll of 54" wide shiny silver wallpaper-grade vinyl. Since you are someone who loves self-portraits, I think a few yards of it on the walls (or desktop) would suit you well!

I think my officemate would explode. Or we'd make a disco. He has a strobe light. :)

You should adorn your walls with vintage, signed, nicely framed, pornography. Like not classy, marylan stuff either. Hardcore-ass-to-mouth-style-mexican-donkey-porno. Everything else should be normal. And the framing should be really expensive.

Trust me, the only other way to get the upper hand on everyone is through the ass-pennies project, and that's just too much work.

Ass to mouth is too recent to have "vintage" porn to frame. What about some nice villain mustache porn?

I will take commissions for fabric wall hangings. See http://www.haleystudio.com/wall.html for some examples of my work.

Oh, and anyone who takes internet-speak seriously enough to criticize it has no sense of humor! rlly.

Wall space is currently a premium. I have a dozen certification plaques. :) I also wish to hang my own art. Subtle way to sell it!

I don't have a lot of suggestions...
Plants help - real or fake, flowering or not.
I keep pictures of my familiy and Grant around. 5 actual pictures pinned up and then one flipbook frame so I can change it every so often.
I also have one wall that's a little more private. You can still see if, but not every joe schmo walking by can. There I keep a little drawing that Grant did for me one day - to remind me to take a step back and put my water glass down. There's also the sign that a coworker made for me to announce my engagement.

Basically - I keep things around that make me smile, that remind me of how lucky I am... and mainly - that remind me why I'm here at work. I'm at work to make money to provide a good life for me and my family.

Oh - and bright colors. But my company color is ORANGE so I have a lot of that anyway.

I do have pictures of thegman169 I could put up....

I'm not sure if bright colors are what I want at work anymore. I've been pretty stressed lately so demur may be better for my psyche. Plus, I'm getting more minimalist in my aesthetic and work seems a good place to try it out. I think I need to clean everything up, get it all stored away and then decorate. Hmm... interesting.

I should get an Ikea couch...

Black and white photos (yours) matted with black or white, then a stripe of red, then black or white again. Hang them over the sheet. Vertically.

That's it. I'm an awful decorator.

Not a half bad idea. I like the BnW photo idea especially.

whoo finally the interior designer pops in.

i think the artful framing of your own photos will acheive many things you see as goals. 1. pictures of things that matter to you, a presence of things you feel emotionally connected to. 2. the black and white and clean, minimalist framing will impart a neat, organized look to your desk in subdued tones that will seem calming while also being visually intersting and personally significant. 3. they'll show off your work and perhaps make sales, as well as showing people at work that you are competant in more areas than what you do at work.

i concur with the idea to relaminate your desk of sorts; having a desk top that coordinates with your design, and means something to you, will encourage you to keep it organized and visible, that will help you at work.

the color you make your wall is up to you, but just so you know... in the world of color psychology, common consensus is that red promotes two things: aggression and hunger.

and this my friends, is what makes designers different from decorators. it's not about the pretty fluffy pillows, it's about understanding why a space works and how to make it function as well as possible while looking effin awesome.
