Burning
Wanted:
Good, simple CD/DVD burning software. I hate the hell out of Roxio but haven't found anything as a decent replacement.
I've had issues with Nero but that may be just me. Depending on endorsement strength I may reconsider it.
Open source/GNU is preferred.

I thought itunes works pretty well, at least for the CD part, although I"m not sure how fast or professionally you are expecting it

Yay go unix-y, good idea!

Fuck Nero

Alcohol 120%. Nero has the same problem that every gen5+ utility program has: It tries to do too many things. It gets confused and lame and there are buttons and options and all I ever wanted to do was not have to use my cdrom as much. Anywho, Alcohol isn't open source as far as I know, but it is by far the most straightforward and reliable program I've used.

i use dvd shrink and dvd decrypter although the latter may have gone the way of the dinosaurs to rip and, um, back up my dvd collection.

never had a problem with 'em, though.

i use i-tunes for cds, like your friend, above
