I cropped this to square for editing. Nothing else.

The cluster was fairly square in grouping so I thought I'd try a square frame. It seems that everything works better in quarters, aligning things along them, rather than thirds. It pretty much works that the interesting bits need to be surrounding the "power points" of a normal photo - which is functionally quarters.

I think. It seemed to work for this one; I'll try again with a similarly shaped photo.

I also like the round tomato/square photo contrast.

You took too many photos of the gun? :)

This was more from the day at Vermont Valley. I feel bad. I may be keeping the best photos for myself.... I assume they want brighter colors. I didn't take pics of the ripe 'maters. I picked them and sauced them. Yum.

That's a bloody great shot, the textures are so present. I wish the light were somehow brighter, but the tangled vines in different states of strength and decay coupled with those pure and non-perfect tomators is just lovely.

I think the lack of light comes from the fog that was still there. Any brighter, though, and the yellows would be very washed out.

I didn't even reaize they were imperfect 'maters until Fox pointed the spots lastnight. Lots of good texture. :)

Are you going to post the original for this one? I want to see the cropping choices you made.

I got sidetracked by other pictures last night I forgot to upload the original.

What about it is beautiful?

The crunchy vines against the juicy tomatoes (but, if you look, the cracks on the tomatoes are crunchy, too.)
I feel like the tomatoes won't have a chance to get super-ripe and red before the dried-out external vines and cracks get to them. A race, maybe?
I suppose that I want you to pick those, even though they aren't quite ripe, before it's too late.

It's also nice that you have all of the colors (yellow, green, orange, red), but that isn't what strikes me.

Neat. Thanks. :)

I would like this more as an addition rather then a main piece. But I do like it.
abmann From: abmann Date: September 6th, 2006 02:23 pm (UTC) (Link)
What do you mean? Like as a part of a group in a show?
What would you show as the main, either that I've posted or a concept that you hold as ideal?

As a side piece... perhaps a main image of the garden itself...

Then will smaller images of the 'matoes, beans, etc surrounding it. Something that would take up a large blank wall in a home...

So you do mean as a grouped display.

So if the image doesn't stand alone why include it as a part of a group? Maybe it will detract from the rest if it isn't as good?

I do like the shot. I just don't think it stands alone very well. I don't see a main focal point for the shot. So I think if you used it to compliment a main feature it would be terrific.

Yes, displayed as a group.

Ooh! I like that idea....

Have a macro picture, and micro investigations around it... that's cool.

Thanks... I like it too :)
