That's really dreamy with the shadows. Nice. Very nice.

I was stumbling around photography sites this weekend and kept seeing these gorgeous photos of nature photos rendered as dreamscapes. I kept think, "Man, wish I could do that."

Yesterday at barriques I realized that, duh, I could do that. I looked through the pictures and was able to pull apart all the separate filters, layers and effects that went into them. It's really neat. I was all, "that's a feathered border. That's an overlayed white gradient. That's a masked blur." Kapow. :)

What's funny is that a bunch of those sites use something called the Melancholytron, a custom photoshop filter from Flaming Pear. Some how I feel.. I dunno.. vindicated that I can do it manually. Though I may buy the filter because it is WAY faster. :)

*grin* You just rock.

We still need to set up a photograph me time. :) I wanna see what you can do to pics of me, if you treat them like pics of the cats.

Treat them like pics of the cats?
lady_fox From: lady_fox Date: August 22nd, 2006 05:50 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yeah, you're always saying that you can get really good pictures of the cats, and if you were to treat taking pics of me like you do taking pics of the cats, maybe you'd get similar results... Just trying to help translate... if that makes any sense.

It's not that simple. People are larger and shaped differently than cats, fill the frame differently. It's a matter of figuring out how to take a picture of non-cat things. :)

That said, I would like to get some photos of you soon but I'm not sure in what situation, lighting or place.

*nods* ok...

if you can duplicate it, then why not automate it with the "Actions" in Photoshop?

Although there it might be more difficult to adjust the various parameters that the filter front end might give you.

I can't automate it because the image size differs per image. Actions are best for non size dependent filtering. :) I tried that already for some of the lomo effects I have done I can't generalize it.
Granted, this may be limited knowledge on my part as I literally just started with actions last Thursday.
