Escape
lady_fox and I saw The Pints (beware.. myspace) at Escape tonight (Art Gallery/Coffee Shop on Willy St) with shortcakeness and her friend John*. They were pretty damn good, the band that is. Lead singer was a fantastic singer but looked odd when not singing. The fiddler had no personality at all but decent fiddlin' skills. The bassist was there. The drummer was there. The banjo was unexpected but also good.

And I have nothing else I want to say about them besides the singers were pretty.

There was also insect porn on the walls. But that's just funny. Interesting artist's work, Bird was the artist's name. Didn't like much of what I saw besides the insect porn painting. It was wavy lines with color done so the grasshoppers were visible from a distance.

Some of the other artists in the gallery had a really high opinion of their work. Some were priced at $900. No average coffee shop patron is going to have that, 'specially on Willy street. C'mon... hippie central. :)

Were they made out of hemp...
I'm kidding.

Mostly.
No I'm not.

Yes I am.

No.

Sure, I am.
*Her real name is Dara which sounds much like shortcakeness's real name. When Fox said it to me, that she was downstairs, I was unable to tell how it was pronounced so I warned them all I'd call her John because it was easier. She introduced herself to me as John.:) Either she thinks I'm funny or the biggest ass ever.

I'm not kidding.

Current Mood: sleepy sleepy

We debated stopping by because our friend strangemodegirl was going (her friend jill_malicious is in the band), but we decided to head straight home instead.

Jill was the bassist. :) I like bassists. dragonflyknight and I strongly beleive that bassists are always, always, always hot irrespective of ability and personality. Something about basses...

It was a good show but the room was frickin' hot.

The bassist for Android Lust had the most beautiful bass I've ever seen. It was fairly dark wood (without the usual inch-thick coat of varnish, so it was somewhat matte) with swirls at the tips.

I would, in general, tend to agree with your theory. Though I suppose you probably only find female bassists hot. And I must exclude my uncle.

hehe. No, actually, I have great aesthetic appreciation for male bassists to. it's just not sexual. More like ohmygodthey'resofuckingcoolbassist! sorts of things.

It's really the same thing for female bassists t's just that, for me, when a woman displays superior skill/competence in something it turns me on. I think this may even extend to skills/hobbies like knitting or underwater basket weaving but I've just not seen that before.

Yeah, apprently size is the only factor going into proce. that particular artists had a bunch of paintings there and they all lookee the same except for size. The $900 piece was about 4 to 5ft square? Something like that. It looked like a painting of seaweed on LSD.

All the pieces with the exception of an acquaintance of mine were priced like that. Obscene. Insane. No no no. Not good pricing for a coffee shop gallery.
