On Salads
Raisins make salads far better especially when you dress them wish a vinaigrette. I'd never have thought to try it. Thanks to lady_fox for that revelation. Subsequently, I imaging if you blend the raisins in your food processor with balsamic vinegar and add your oil to dress, the flavors would infuse very well. I haven't tried this myself but I see potential.

I learned two things with my lunch today. First, fresh turnips are very sweet and match very well with banana. When I cooked the turnips last night I had a wicked urge to drop in sliced banana to the pan. I did and I win today. However, I didn't toss the banana with any acid to prevent browing (that's the second thing I learned). It looks nasty today. I did splash on some mirin which is nice. I haven't tried the balsamic I have in a little tub. I'm worried I'll ruin it because it is quite good now.

Let's see...

Nope. Balsamic vinegar + turnips + banana = yummy. Go figure.

Tonight, I'm going to roast the asparagus I got in the CSA share. Then I'm going to make a mustard aioli, slice up some potato and greens and make a asparagus-potato salad to go with the stroganoff Fox is cooking for dinner. It shall be a fun adventure. I've only made aioli once before on my own.

Cooking has become a new and intoxicating creative outlet for my life.
I hearts it. Even when the toasted cashews get stuck in my teeth.

My favourite thing in salad is dried cherries. Sweet-tart and delicious paired with spinach.

That could be tasty. Most sweet things go well with spinach. Try M&Ms wrapped in spinach leaves. Very yummy.

I haven't even heard of half the things you cook with. I feel dumb.
Recipies man... instructions. Step-by-step.
Seriously. Sometimes I mess up Hamburger Helper.

I suspect he is recommending Good Eats as a good source of step-by-step instruction.

But I could be reading way too much into three letters.

Ahhh...
I left my ABM decoder ring at home. Thanks for the help :)
evilevi From: evilevi Date: May 16th, 2006 08:43 pm (UTC) (Link)
My decoder seems to be mis-calibrated, but apparently gives better advice than the real thing. ;)

I'm just hanging out in his comments because he unleashed a misama of granny sex on mine.

Raisins are Always ALWAYS optional. Disgusting little creatures.

Cooking is CRACK. CRACK I SAY!
abmann From: abmann Date: May 16th, 2006 07:04 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes optional, but good when used.

Cooking takes too much effort to be crack. I mean, compared to real crack all you gotta do is blow some dealer and your set. With cooking there's the chopping and the mincing adn the sauteeing before you get that hot love injection.

Wow, I just grossed myself out.

The only question I have is: when are you getting your own cooking show? Or even a website?

Uhhh... BAM!

Try strawberries and balsamic + angelfood cake for desert. It wins
evilevi From: evilevi Date: May 16th, 2006 07:24 pm (UTC) (Link)
Ooooooh, strawberries and balsamic. Also excellent for breakfast on Cheerios.

abmann From: abmann Date: May 17th, 2006 01:27 am (UTC) (Link)
That's what Aetrix9 said. I didn't have plantains.

I'm so glad that you moved from Man Food to this... it sounds wonderful!

I have no desire to try spinach and M&Ms... but chuzhuzhu wrote an entry once about cheesecake and crispy bacon... and that sounds heavenly. That's what I'll get the next time I head to Big Boy.

I made Chicken Souvlaki served like gyros last night. Freaking excellent.
