What the hell was up with that Red Ryder LE BB Gun being so amazing?

I've been hankering to play through the Fallout games again. Fisrt time through the first game, I was playing a Perception 10, Luck 10 sniper. First random encounter, I found the Red Ryder LE BB Gun.

If you haven't played these games, I will burn you copies. They are the best post apocalyptic computer games ever.

I never finished Wasteland. The diskettes corrupted half way through. Wish I could play that again.

Did you know you can complete fallout I without ever killing anyone ?

This excludes people who die in cutscene explosions and such.

My last time through I was a max Int, Max Cha talker. It was really interesting.

Including the end boss?

I believe I must try this!

You'll need stealth skills too.

And a quick save button...

Does this way cripple your ability to level?

No, the XP bonuses for completing objectives non-violently are pretty good, if I recall correctly.

But this was probably two years ago.

I never found out if Fallout 2 was the same way or not.

Tactics was our (being Mr Group, Mr Kilserv, and myself) game of the semester once. We played it nearly exclusively.

Mr Group was my roommate at the time, and Mr Kilserv lived 2 doors down the hall.

Funny: In one MP game, I created a dog and named it Tock (Mr Kilserv's family dog shares the same name). I found one of Mr Kilserv's "sentries" and purposely sent said dog running towards it. His sentry, as sentries do, completely eviscerated the canine. Mr Kilserv, from down the hall, could be heard to scream: "YOU ASSHOLE, YOU MADE ME SHOOT MY DOG"

also, I once made a rock-throwing robot named Babingatron.

I really want to play this now, you jerk.
abmann From: abmann Date: March 7th, 2006 05:10 pm (UTC) (Link)
YOU SHOULD.

I have never played Tactics. I'm told it was good but I'm wary of all war games/RTS.

The single player was a little shoddy, but the MP was AMAZINGLY GREAT AND COOL.

I know I have it somewhere, unless Mr Group stole it.

The MP was the bee's knees.

Stay away from the console version. Stay FAR AWAY!

"Wasteland" was great. And then I went through that sewer and ended up dying each goddamn time because of sewer rot. That sucked.

Did you give your guy Finesse? Fast shot?

Also, NMA has those shots of Project Van Buren. It didn't look that good, but then I saw the coolest thing: loads of customizable equipment for your science skill to devour.
abmann From: abmann Date: March 7th, 2006 08:12 pm (UTC) (Link)
I believe I gave him Finesse to start. I had something like a 40% chance to crit on every shot from the start of the game. Finding the LE BB Gun so early in the game was ludicrous.

Hell with "Fallout," what about "Zork!?!" The "Zork" games are still the coollest in history, no matter what anybody says.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

God damn it.

Wish granted.

Oh my god!! What the fuck!! Bring your own bar-be-que!!
zesty_pinto From: zesty_pinto Date: March 7th, 2006 08:59 pm (UTC) (Link)
You're welcome.

Outside of that, you can probably find almost every SSI D&D game in existence, the underrated Darklands, and a few other things that make up all that was wonderful in childhood. Or the crappy ass games that you knew sucked but you wanted to waste money on anyway.
andamaroo From: andamaroo Date: March 8th, 2006 06:11 pm (UTC) (Link)
I can't help but sense you're referring specifically to Dungeon Hack when you mention crappy games...
zesty_pinto From: zesty_pinto Date: March 8th, 2006 07:13 pm (UTC) (Link)
Never dealt with Dungeon Hack, though I've heard stories about it... didn't they make 3 of them? Or am I thinking of Dungeon Keep?

To be honest, when I typed that, the only games in my head were those Rogue-clones that didn't really offer anything new or a game that I read a humorous review for that intrigued me called, "Robinson's Requiem."
