I do know that I'll be partying hard at 11 though.

I made Alton Brown's Free Range Fruitcake last year and it was marvelous. I intend to do it again this year but add dried pineapples. I should probably go out and get some fruit and start it macerating today if I want it to be ready by the end of December this year.

Alton Brown IS king....

You could likely skip a step and get the pineapple at Whole Foods rather than macerating/drying yourself. This is the lazy approach, however.

He rocks my little culinary world.

I buy the fruit dried from the co-op. The macerating is the soaking in alcohol that reconstitutes it. Yum.

I did consider buying a fruit drying contraption at one point because of my love of dried fruit but then decided on a co-op membership instead.

Clearly, I did not read closely. Silly brains getting distratced.
I was kind of confused why you were going to macerate then dry...
INflate.
DEflate.

I emailed my grandma for a recipe.

Does it involve bourbon?

Dunno. Possibly. ("It cooks the alcohol out when you cook it..." ;))

If it doesn't involve bourbon, I'll have nothing to do with this Latter Day Fruit Cake of which you speak...

But there's the Fruitcake Lady who goes on Leno's Show every year and gives him shit. It's pretty hilarious.

I'd definitely use her fruitcake recipe. I can't find it anywhere.
