Gah!
Good lord!
ALL of my bills posted today. Good bye checking account.
Epic owes me $1100, $720 of which is very overdue. I shall have to kick them again today.

Is it kosher for my bank to charge me a non-wells fargo ATM fee when the ATM already charged me for use?

Dude...
--
House to myself tonight and every night this week. How lame is it that I'm planning makng icons rather than, you know, doing something?
I think my life too simple.

Embrace simplicity,
Reduce selfishness,
Have few desires.

yes... that's why its not really free to use 'free' atms but it is cheaper- your bank will charge you between 50 cents and a buck fifty for using your card as a debit or atm not at their bank and then the bank that is providing the atm for you will charge you between one and two dollars so you can be paying 3.50 for a 20 withdrawl or sometimes for just a 4 dollar purchase- that's why you never, i repeat never want to use the debit option on your bank card unless you are getting cash back or you know its with your bank- if you use the visa it costs the store that you use it at money but not you.

it's both banks making money off you not one bank scoring more cash off you- that's what makes it kosher

I have that same day - the car gets paid, the insurance, my rent, my phone, my school loans... The whole kit-n-caboodle hits up in oneday.

The nice thing, though, All of my bills get paid then on the first of the month and BAM all of the rest of that money is mine. It makes budgeting much easier.
abmann From: abmann Date: August 16th, 2005 05:47 pm (UTC) (Link)
That's keen. I'm envious. I also detest getting paid only once a month.
kate_the_bear From: kate_the_bear Date: August 16th, 2005 06:18 pm (UTC) (Link)
that is possibly not legal- there are ways that a company can pay you like that... for example if you get paid per project completed, but if you are a salary of any kind or collecting wages its illegal to keep that money more than two weeks because they can make money off your money and you can't if they keep it
abmann From: abmann Date: August 16th, 2005 06:29 pm (UTC) (Link)
Where can I find information on this?
kate_the_bear From: kate_the_bear Date: August 16th, 2005 07:20 pm (UTC) (Link)
uh, you could probably call the better business bureau... they would likely know the local laws- other wise you can call the irs and ask for someone to help you... but well... that seems annoying and evil... i'll ask my dad when i next talk to him- he knows this junk

Dude - I work for the state of Wisconsin and my funding source comes 90% from monies directly contracted by the National Institutes of Health. Trust me, it's legal.
kate_the_bear From: kate_the_bear Date: August 16th, 2005 11:01 pm (UTC) (Link)
its not legal in pa
abmann From: abmann Date: August 16th, 2005 11:04 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, isn't PA just special.

I've gotta move.

Actually, I kind of like the once-a-month pay because, though I get no three-paychecks-in-a-month, I never get the jipped one-paycheck-a-month.

I don't know about the rest of you, but all of my bills, without exception are based on a 30.5 day pay cycle and having my paycheck also on that schedule makes things nice.

But, I never get to have any fun in the last few days of the month.

I'm probably just retarded at budgeting, though I'm always putting money in savings. Autotransfers save me.

I didn't really have much of a plan. Dinner or something? I can bus it down to Madison if you want to come downtown to pick me up/hang out.

In this one instance, the UK banking system wins!
we have price wars on everything and if one bank starts charging for ATM withdrawals, people go else where and they drop the charging issues - that's happened. Only difference is where a pub or bar or even somewhere like McDonalds gets paid a fee (i think) to put an ATM machine in their premises and there is a stonkingly huge fee (up to £2.50) per withdrawal.
(so say you're only getting a tenner out for a couple of drinks, you have to factor in that the machine, and the host company, are taking a quarter of your money away !)

oh and our Direct Debiting system for banks to deal with your bills directly, also Kicks ass ! (none of this running around with a cheque book) (yes that's right I said "cheque", not "check")

bwahahahaah
abmann From: abmann Date: August 17th, 2005 12:29 pm (UTC) (Link)
We've got the direct debiting then. I just prefer to write checks (cheques) for my bills. Keeps me more aware.
kirstygold From: kirstygold Date: August 19th, 2005 01:16 am (UTC) (Link)
What is this "aware" of which you speak !? ?! !
is it the same sort of concept as my bank manager wants me to work out ????
