Thursday Album(s) - Noah's Arkweld

Collapse )

Today's music.
Artist: Noah's Arkweld [iTunes]
Album: Names for Shapes That Don't Exist
Genre: Alternative
Release date: Jan 15th, 2009

I found this via iTunes' new release list [iTunes link] which after figuring out how to filter the list is kind of nice. I will likely use this more as the closest record store is Best Buy and.. uh. No. Not going there for music. With iTunes, I can at least pretend the artists will get more money for my instant gratification than from a big box.
    Impressions:
  • The songs are awfully short. I rather like, though, how efficient they are at delivering a message or mood or tone.
  • I appreciate the touches of electronic synthesis in there.
  • I'm also a sucker for cellos or string instruments in general. Minor key is my crack with music.
  • "Reach Out" surprised me when the female vocalist kicked in; rather strong and loud.
  • Tagged four songs for further listening.

I'm not sure I'll be on edge waiting for anything else from this band. Generic alternative. Meh? A few of the songs are interesting with their addition of synthesizers for rhythm in some cases but the bulk of the album is straightforward acoustic guitar and light vocals.

Favorite lyrics: The day I quite coffee, I quit my life.

I think last week's band affected my expectations. I want everything to be as strange as The Books because I frickin' loved that album, but it is exceedingly difficult to find more like them; this is especially true as iTunes hasn't the greatest granularity in their filters. And I'm new at this.

I also purchased Company of Thieves today. Both albums were super cheap. I'll get to that later today.
