What motivates me is that everything changes, so you have to change with it.

Frontera Grill is spectacular, but due to the volume of people in that place, I'm not surprised at the slow service. The cocktail we had was very summery, which fit the season we visited. I had the mole when I went and I just loved how each bite revealed a new flavor. Truly impressive cooking, and one of the the best meals I've ever had.

This motivation doesn't necessarily assume changing for the better. Maybe "how do you better yourself" is more accurate irrespective of activity or trait you're trying to change.

There was much drinking. I should have gotten the trago bravo - a spicy margarita - but wanted to be able to walk to the theater without incident. :)

Hmm. That depends on what you mean by "bettering yourself". But assuming you've already resolved, at least temporarily, that exceptionally existential question, I would say that keeping your sights set upon the end result is the best idea. Because, quite frankly, if the end goal just isn't worth it, I think it's best to re-evaluate your goals. No point in chasing after something you don't really want anymore just because you said you would, I think.
