I'm overly stressed about this trip and this potential house and the intersection of the two.

When's the trip?

Second half of October. Two weeks in France. Tickets are bought and I'm meeting the travel agent on Thursday to figure out lodging. Two days in Paris, 12 in Nice, one back in Paris before we return.

Not exactly sure how much money to keep on hand for it given the whole house buying thing that may or may not be happening in September...

It's my understanding that houses aren't that expensive anymore. You're probably fine with a couple hundred bucks on hand to cover a house or two.

The real question you should be stressing out about is how many 3-michelin star'd restaurants are you going to be able to eat at in those 2 weeks. Make sure to make your reservations now!

Do you have a plan for the time in Nice yet? You're like 3-4 hours from the heart of northern italy.

We're intending to do one ritzy dinner while in Paris before running off to Nice for the remainder.

No plans just yet. Our big hope is to wander the city a lot, eat lots of cheese and wine and then maybe take some trains to the country, mountains and Mediterranean. Really, we want to relax a whole bunch and learn the culture.

Sounds nice.

Let me know where you eat

Ever been to those locales before?

Guy Savoy. Eric and I LOVED it. Pricey, we threw down 500 for dinner. BUT MY GOD, what an experience. There was a bread sommelier.

PS - While you're making your decisions, don't forget to go here. I got to meet Carlo once. He's by far one of the most impressive up and coming chefs in the world.

So have no desire to go to Italy on this trip. Want to keep costs down and stay in France. Otherwise, I can't go to Italy and have work pay for the tickets or lodging on my next sabbatical. :)

You Know...

You rather sound like a complete douche when you 'woe is me, I'm stressed' about shit like this.

There are plenty of people that would kill to be in your position.

Awesome job that you love, money in the bank, all kinds of 'toys', looking at houses *seriously*, global travel.

Oh yeah. Tough life there.

Re: You Know...

I am aware that things are good. I'm mentioning that I'm stressed and not even in the actual entry. Instead, I made it into a silly poll.

Is that not why I have a personal journal? Am I now no longer allowed to gripe about anything ever, even vaguely saying that I'm just stressed about it?

Re: You Know...

What are you intending to have happen then?

We all bitch on LJ even when things are good, or happy, or what not. The logistics of the trip and the house, the the latter is still entirely at the whim of the bank, is driving my batty. You guys bought a house, a brand new house; was it the easiest thing you ever did?

Re: You Know...

Actually yes, it was rather easy. The worst thing that we had to deal with was choosing paint colors.

Intending to happen? Nothing. I just felt like voicing my opinion of your post. Is that not what comments are for?

Honestly, sometimes people don't know how they are coming off and they need a poke in the arm to point it out. I guess that is all I was really doing. I have had it done to me in the past and I wound up being grateful for it.

C'est la vie.

I think that was uncalled for. Sure things are good, he's not saying they're not... you seem to think that just because things are good, there is no stress. It shows a pretty deep lack of empathy to think that just because someone's got a job that pays well and has things they want, there's no stress ever. Sure, it's not the same type of stress that someone who's in less of a financially stable position has, but there's stress nonetheless.
