Swedish Street Food or, How I Learned to Relax and Trust Swedish Cuisine

Capturing The Wild Tunnbrodsrulle

Swedes are big into street food, especially hot dogs. Friday, we all went to have some street food for lunch before splitting to explore various parts of Södermalm, which is kind of the bohemian area in Stockholm. Let me explain to you the marvel that is tunnbrodsrulle [tun-brodez-rooluh], the thing being handed to me in this photo.

Take a big, floppy tortilla. Add one hot dog (boiled or grilled [kokt eller grillat]).
Slather on mashed potatoes, ketchup, mustard (from bladders, no less), relish (we opted for no relish on the one we shared), salad and shrimp salad. The shrimp salad is a mix of shrimp, mayo, dill and I think a little more ketchup. It's pretty much this but blended into a vague paste thingy. It's better than you'd think but not as good as that sandwich.

Wrap tortilla, pop open your Pucko chocolate drink and go to town.

It was surprisingly tasty. The hot dog was perfectly cooked and tasted like a hot dog should. I could have ditched the shrimp salad since it was too sweet and didn't actually have any shrimp bits in it. Still, pretty yummy. :)
